Central Indiana's climate is what actually drives mold here, and it works in two opposite directions across the year. Through humid continental summers, warm moist air meets cool below-grade surfaces and condenses on them — which is why basements and crawlspaces over Hamilton County's slow-draining glacial till stay damp long after any rain has gone. Through the heating season the flow reverses: warm interior air carrying moisture reaches cold attic sheathing, and a bath fan discharging into the attic will stain, then rot it. Both are climate problems rather than plumbing ones, which is why cleaning alone reliably fails to hold.
